"Alright, we're almost there..." Matt said, leading them around the corner of the street. Peter and Lindsay, who had been walking together behind Matt and Anton, chatted quietly. "Do you really think that Connnor could help us?" Peter asked Lindsay. "Yeah. I mean, he doesn't seem evil or anything. I don't know why Matt is so worked up," she replied, trying to explain her feelings. "He just doesn't want you to get hurt," Peter lowered his voice, "and neither do I." Lindsay stopped walking, as did Peter when he noticed her. She looked into his eyes, trying to see what he was thinking. "I'm not lying. I care about you, Lindsay." Lindsay smiled slightly and started walking again. Peter stared after her for a second before catching up. They said nothing more on the way back to the apartment.
"Honey, we're home..." Matt called out into the empty apartment. "Trusting person, she doesn't even lock her door." The four people stepped into the large living room and switched on the lamps. It was getting dark out, and it had started to rain. Soon, thunder and lightning would come. "Supper, anyone?" Anton took the black bag from where Matt had left it, on top of a box, and took it on the floor. He made a peanut butter sandwich for everyone, including himself, and put the condiments back in the bag. They had a quiet supper and lay back to think of a plan. It was dark and dreary outside, and it didn't help anyone's mood. They were all curt with each other and Matt still seemed upset about Lindsay suggesting Connor helps them. They sat for hours, until 1:22 in the morning, discussing what to do. They eventually all fell asleep in midsentence, and still had not thought of anything.
Lindsay sat up in the dark room, and Peter, who she had been sleeping on the arm of, groaned in protest of being waken up. Lindsay took off her shoes, as to not make any noise, and walked silently over to where her cell phone was, on top of a box, and picked it up. She took the card Connor had given her and dialed the number written on it. She listened to the ring for a while before Connor picked up. "Yeah?" Connor sounded sleepy, but that was comprehensible at 2:45 in the morning. "Connor, it's me, Lindsay. Are you still up for getting together?" Lindsay kept her voice low, trying not to wake the three sleeping guys on the floor. "Sure. Look, I gotta make this quick. I have a long day tomorrow... or should I say today? Anyway, I really need my sleep. How's about tomorrow night, at the restaurant in town? You know, the one in near the department store?" "Yeah. I'll meet you there, say around 8:00?" "Sure. See you then." Lindsay said goodbye and quietly hung up the phone. She tiptoed back over to the others, nearly kicking Matt in the ribs. She lay down next to Peter and soon fell fast asleep. |
